I've worked inside more than 20 well-established paid media agencies worldwide. I know exactly why they fail fashion and lifestyle brands — and I built Maxout to solve the problems they don't.
ROAS is a platform metric. It measures revenue attributed to ad spend — it doesn't account for COGS, returns, shipping, payment processing fees, FX charges, or overheads. A 4x ROAS on a 25% margin product with 15% returns, payment processing and FX costs can mean you're losing money on every sale. Most agencies either don't know this or don't tell you.
The real danger isn't just a bad month — it's being told to scale when you're already making a loss. Increasing spend on a campaign that isn't actually profitable doesn't fix the problem. It accelerates it. Cash drains faster, stock becomes harder to fund, and the business takes damage that a few good ROAS screenshots won't recover.
From day one we build your real numbers into the strategy — margins, returns, COGS, fulfilment, payment processing and FX fees. We use StoreHero to forecast actual profit to the dollar, accounting for every variable cost that silently eats into your margin — the ones that cause a 35% swing on what looks like the same sale.
We forecast toward a net profit annual goal — then work backwards from it. Alongside that, we keep MER, contribution margin (profit before fixed costs), CAC, and new customer acquisition split all tracked and on target in their own right. Platform ROAS is a vanity metric — it doesn't give us anything to build on, and it certainly won't help forecast annual targets. It's one data point in a much bigger picture, and it's never the one we optimise toward.
Most agency creative leads with the brand — features, USPs, what you're proud of. Customers don't buy because of what you do. They buy because of what they want. Fashion is driven by identity, aspiration, and belonging. Treating it like a commodity product is why fashion brands consistently underperform with generalist agencies.
Every client goes through our Motive Compass process — a structured framework built around what motivates your specific customer to buy, not what you think makes your product great. We're not writing ads to shout about your brand. We're giving your customer the information they need to feel compelled.
An agency that scaled a supplements brand, a SaaS tool, and a fashion label isn't a fashion specialist — they're a generalist with a fashion client. The buyer psychology, the visual language, the platform behaviour, the seasonal dynamics — they're all different. You pay for the learning curve. You rarely see the results before you've moved on.
Fashion and lifestyle is our entire world. Over 6 years and thousands of campaigns, we've built a knowledge base no generalist can replicate. We still test — but the majority of our tests are expected to be profitable from day one, because we're drawing on what we already know works in your market.
Generalist agencies spray and pray across paid social and PPC. They bundle multiple audiences, interests and placements together and call it a strategy. It's the equivalent of investing in five different stocks at once — if it works, you have no idea which one drove the result. If it doesn't, you have no idea what to cut. You can't analyse data you can't isolate. Budget gets burned on audiences that will never convert, with no way to prove it.
Your fashion brand has real potential. If your conversion rate is low, the first question isn't "is my product right?" — it's "are the right people even seeing it?" Irrelevant traffic produces low CVR regardless of how strong the product is. That's not a brand problem. That's a targeting problem. And it's entirely fixable.
We test audiences individually across paid social and PPC — clean data, clear conclusions at every level. Over 6 years and thousands of fashion campaigns across Meta, Google and TikTok, we've built a deep map of what audiences, interests and intent signals convert for which fashion niches. Luxury, streetwear, occasion wear, accessories — we know the differences and we apply them from day one across every channel.
When we launch your campaigns, we're not guessing what audiences to reach. We already know. The testing we do from there is refinement — not discovery at your expense.
Most agencies build creative on brand guidelines and gut instinct. They might run some basic competitor research at onboarding, then forget about it. Meanwhile your landing pages are left untouched, your on-site conversion rate bleeds money from every paid click, and nobody is connecting the dots between what the ad promises and what the page delivers. Traffic without conversion infrastructure is just an expensive leak.
The moment you're onboarded, we run a full AI-powered scrape and analysis of your top 20 competitors' entire ad library — every format, every angle, every hook across paid social and search. We extract the winning structures based on real performance signals, then build your creative from that foundation.
Not just in fashion broadly — in your specific niche. We know what's working for your direct competitors right now, and we build something better.
And we don't stop at the ad. CRO is part of the system. We maximise the revenue from every visitor you're already paying for — because sending the right traffic to a store that isn't built to convert is just a slower way to lose money.
I've consulted for and worked inside more than 20 well-established paid media agencies worldwide. I've seen their processes, their reporting, their onboarding — and what happens once the contract is signed.
The problems aren't random. They're structural. Overselling on pitch. Under-resourcing on delivery. Reporting designed to retain the client, not grow their business. I know because I watched it happen, repeatedly, from the inside.
Maxout is the direct response. Boutique by design. Fashion-specialist by choice. Every client's paid social led by me personally — not delegated, not templated, not forgotten after month two.
In 2025, our mission was to ensure every Maxout client was profitable. Not some. Not most. Every one. We delivered.
30 minutes with Zen. You'll leave with clarity on exactly where your brand can scale — and what's been standing in the way.
